USC: Vectors: Issue 1

A series of interactive narratives for the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Center

N. Kathryn Hayles’ essay Narrating Bits, interactive.

“Unlike many of the design teams or designers we initially contacted, the folks at Stamen immediately understood the collaborative dimensions and intellectual scope of Vectors. They hit the ground running and offered excellent suggestions for improving the projects they worked on. They also illustrated exceptional range, real generosity, and a finely-honed capacity for teamwork. We’re looking forward to working with them again in the future.”
—Tara McPherson, Editor, Vectors

The Annenberg Center’s Institute for Multimedia Literacy is facing the digital age head on with their new publication, Vectors: Journal of Culture of Technology in a Dynamic Vernacular. The journal is investigating issues of scholarship and academic study in the digital context directly, by bringing academics and digital artists together to investigate key debates at the intersection of culture, technology and authorship.

Stamen worked with the Vectors team to develop two “objects to think with”, interactive pieces that use the language of multimedia to express scholarly ideas, and which seek to use that language to better understand how academic scholarship can address the current dynamic cultural landscape. We were delighted that the Vectors staff also chose our In The News project for inclusion in their inaugural issue.
